Master Bathroom Vanity 2

So at some point there was a leak in the left side of our vanity, we have fixed the leak with no structural damage done, but it was left severely cosmetically lacking.

(I'm about to show you my gross vanity, please don't judge me too harshly!)

Super nasty right?

Don't tell my mom my bathroom looked like this, she'd be so ashamed.......

So after a bleachy scrub, it looked less green, but still bad and peeling.

So next I sanded an sanded, all of the flaky finish came off until we got to solid particle board.

Next I vacuumed and wiped the inside down and let it dry completely.

Here's the bit where I make it look decent without trying to paint or do something messy! I found some light wood colored peel and stick linoleum boards for .98 cents a piece at Lowes, and all we had to do was cut 6" off each board with shears and then lay them in 5 deep, that's it!

It looks so much better now, and it's super wipe-able. The whole project cost around $10 since I did it to both cupboards so they would match each other. (I like this much more than living with the damage, or cutting a new board to put over the bottom which always looks like you are hiding a problem to me. There are other color options in the peel and stick world, but I decided to go with a close color to the laminate already inside of the cupboard so that it looked more natural.)

Master Bathroom Vanity

So remember when I said I was redoing my master bathroom's vanity? (smile, nod, and say yes.... I do realize I have practically no order to anything I post.) well, I finished it today! I love it so much I can hardly stand it!

I'm not going to show the whole thing yet, because I have a few more touches to do in the bathroom before its ready for the grand reveal, so I'm going to start with a before picture of the cabinet.

Not a great picture I realize, I had already taken one door off to take to the store with me, and I was too lazy to screw it back on for the picture, (ergo my foot holding it up) so I wasn't able to stand in the tub and get the whole thing in at once, but it is just 4 doors that look like this. The doors have oak frames with a horrible, slick laminate in the inset. This laminate doesn't take paint well so I came up with something else as a solution, with this vanity from pinterest as my inspiration.

I love the mirrored doors, and that it has a very timeless feel. I'm not as crazy about the X design or the square knobs, since it is a bit contemporary for my house. I love the aged zinc color though, that is a yes please! (am am still going back and forth about the mustard walls, for me they are a yes, but we have to sell our house in a year, and I am not sure it's neutral enough for everyone. What do you think?)

Anyway, a variation on this look was my goal, the mirrors will fix the issue with the laminate not wanting to have paint stick to it, and it turned out to be a substantially less expensive option then new doors, or a new vanity. ($11 a door was the final renovation price, true story,)

So I'm debating whether I should show the finished vanity, or do the tutorial first for the doors, and then do the grand reveal? Let me know what you think! (I still have to post about the kid's bathroom now it is done, I love it but trying to get all the matching towels clean along with a clean bathroom, is my current challenge for taking pictures in there!)

That's it, we're canceling Christmas!

So we have decided that this year there will be no Christmas in our household (well, NO is such a strong word, we will be putting up the tree and Christmas lights.) But instead of all the presents, and dinners, etc. we are going on a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas, a day at Universal Studios Florida, and Christmas Eve at Hogwarts! (Can I not even tell you that the cruise isn't even on the kids radar, it's all about the Hogwarts baby.)

So I still have to get through Fall semester at school (Oh boy are there some big weaving projects brewing there.) but I am also on to my plans for a trip full of homemade goodies. I knit a Weasley sweater for Isaac for his 11th birthday on October 9th, and am now onto knitting one for Emmie. I know I need to take pictures of them before the children manage to do something terrible to them, so I will get on that. If I have time I would like to make Paul a sweater too, but I don't know if that will happen before December. I am going to make t-shirts for Hogwarts too, so if it's too hot for sweaters the kids can still be "dressed up"

I am making myself at least 2 new swimsuits for the cruise, possibly 3. I am making everyone in the family at least 1 piece of "cruise wear" (the fabric for that is on the way) and I might need to make something formal for the kids to wear on the black tie night. I am going to make a sundress to so I can go out in a dress with a swimsuit under it, (not feeling naked, but still beachy I guess?)

I am going to hopefully at least post stuff about the Hogwarts gear, cruise wear, and maybe some school stuff over the next month or two. (I am not sure about the school stuff, I tend not to post as much of the weaving stuff here because it's not really normal in the "crafty" department, well.... it's at least not as accessible to anyone who doesn't have expensive specialized tools.) So what do you think? Show the school stuff or not?

Anyway, if my tracking info was correct, I should have my fabric that I ordered online here by tomorrow, so I can get started on my sewing projects.

I just survived my midterms, so I get to have a few days off of school for Fall break, I am off from Wednesday to Monday morning, so hopefully some sewing will happen this week. (that and I have to finish off my master-bathroom makeover eventually, and photograph the makeover we did in the kid's bathroom.)

Pictureless posts tend to be a bummer, so I will leave you with the picture that's going to be getting me through my finals and the cold this Fall........

I'm so excited! less then 60 days to go. If anyone has any cruise advice, or suggestions about must haves, I am all ears!
