Week One Project Run and Play

So I am a big fan of Project Run and Play, and with this new season being open to viewer participation, I decided to play too.

This week the theme was pattern remix and I made Emmie a cute little Valentine's dress with an attachable apron. 

 I'm calling this dress "The Love Letter Dress"

This dress is made from a vintage look cotton valentine fabric, with red lace edges on the sleeves and around the neck, with black velvet trim accents. The dress is just the fabric with trim without the apron, and since Emmie was super ready for bed I didn't take any photos of it without the apron, sorry!

The cotton apron buttons on to the front of the dress with 6 black buttons and ties around the waist with a red chiffon ribbon. The fabric is a sort of rustic feed sack style cotton, I loved the texture it added. I screen printed a black vintage typewriter onto the skirt of the apron, and then used my embroidery machine to add embroidered hearts, a cupid, and the "I LOVE YOU" and "BE MINE ?" writing on the apron in red and black.

The apron buttons on and then ties around the waist with a red chiffon ribbon sash. The cupid and letters are embroidered on by machine. 

the back is overlapped so it fits her now, but the buttons can be moved as she grows.

the pattern is my own, just a quick one I made last night! (The whole dress only took about 5 hours total, which when I say *5* seems an awful lot of time, but is sewing time that's not too bad for something fully lined and drafted from scratch!) 

The typewriter is screen printed on, and the embroidery is done in red thread with an embroidery machine. 

This is pretty much my favorite picture of Emmie, the face is so her! (this is the sort of silly that happens when you get her to stay up an hour after bedtime on a school night, so you can do a photo shoot!)

Emmie loves this dress!
